Discovery Times Square Foundation
The Discovery Times Square Foundation is the charitable arm of the Discovery Times Square Museum. Our theme is “Education through Entertainment” and our goal is to provide a unique and innovative approach to learning through museum visits.
We serve all NYC Public School students and teachers and especially those who come from under resourced schools and schools with a disadvantaged student population.
Career Development for Educators
We will provide free professional development training to NYC public school teachers through the generosity of our corporate sponsors and individual donors. Our Professional Development program is one way to help support our local teachers in overcoming the challenges of bringing the Common Core standards alive for their students.
Improving Skills and a Global Awareness for Students
Our program goals focus on improving students' academic performance through a deeper experience at the museum. Field trips can positively affect critical thinking skills and better recall of content and subject area. Middle and high school students represent the future citizens of their generation, and our exhibits will help them to develop an awareness and appreciation for the larger global community we live in.
Teachers who have participated in the Professional Development program will be able to schedule a complimentary field trip for their class which will be funded entirely by the Discovery Times Square Foundation. Additional curriculum planning visits will also be offered prior to their class visit to enhance what is being taught in the classroom.
Our Foundation's Professional Development Program was recently completed and we are currently looking at a launch date of Fall 2014.
